Interview with Father James Manjackal (Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales MSFS)
May 31th, 2014 on the Feast of the Visitation in Germany

Before starting the interview, Father James prayed to the Holy Spirit, through the intercession of the Virgin Mary.
 GB: On behalf of all French Catholics who are preparing for the retreat in August with you, thank you for choosing France for your early retirement after a long absence I am also grateful for having given me this interview.
 
 Father James: I'm very happy to meet you and answer your questions.
 It is always a great joy for me to meet French and return to France to preach.  Belonging to the Congregation of the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales based in Annecy, I had French teachers at the seminary and novitiate.  I received my French spirituality;  this is why I am pleased to return to preach in France.   When I preach in France, I give them what I received from them!
 GB: All of your retreats in 2013 were canceled and you from May 2014 you began again. We learned at that time that you were seriously ill..  Can you tell about that?
 Fr. James: In November and December 2012, I went to Arab countries to preach the Gospel.
 
 GB: Is not it dangerous to preach to Muslims and their land?
 Fr. James: This is a special ministry that the Lord has entrusted to me for 15 years.  In this context, I faced the release, torture, imprisonment.  I was beaten, kidnapped, etc..  This is part of my mission!  They are the Muslims themselves who invite me to speak about Christ, they really want to hear about Him.  Several thousand people have already been baptized.
 
 GB: Was it during this trip that you were sick?
 Fr. James: It was when my return to Munich in early December, which was noted a stomach infection with a high fever.  I asked my doctor a safe treatment in order to go to India for my nephew ordination which took place on 28. But on 21th, I felt a weakness in my body, then I found paralyzed.  It began with the hands, then the chest, then half of the face.  Then I found myself in an induced coma for 13 days.  And for four months I was with breathing support.
I was sent to three hospitals in nine months.  First in Salzburg, Austria but doctors did not identify the cause of my illness.  After three months, in March 2013, I was sent to Spain in a hospital in Pamplona where they eventually diagnose the Guillain-Barré syndrome.
The treatment helped me to recover, speak and breathe without ventilatory support, but my body was still paralyzed.  I then returned to Austria, where I benefit from 5 months of physiotherapy treatment which allowed me to move my hands and legs and speak more easily.
 GB: This healing came at Easter, precisely at the end of a vast movement of prayer in the world.  This spiritual support has been for you a great comfort?
 Fr. James: Yes, prayer does wonders.  My friends around the world have mobilized to offer prayers, masses, fasting, adoration for my healing, I experienced the love of others there.  I saw them in my heart.  Prayers does wonders!
I think there was the prayers and sacrifices of others who have facilitated my healing.  I praise Jesus for all those who prayed for me!
 
 GB: The intensive care you have received, and for so long had to be very expensive.  Have you been supported?
 Fr. James:: No, I have no insurance, the various hospital stages costed me very expensive (over € 700,000).  I now have to repay the loan;  my apartment in Munich had to be mortgaged.
 Then donations arrived from around the world and have covered a large part of this debt.
 I still have to pay a lot of money to the bank, especially to get back my apartment but I know that the Lord will help me to return the debt, thanks to the generosity of friends and benefactors.
 
 GB: Many people have visited you, you have sent messages of encouragement, by telephone, e-mails ... How have you seen these beautiful stories?
 Fr. James: I really experienced the love of all these people during this time of suffering.  All those who visited me beamed upon me the love of God!  I always see in my heart especially the Holy Mass ... I am indebted to them.
 I was supported by my congregation and by a lot of people.  Because hospital charges were high, my friends decided to take me in a private home for treatment and therapy.  One of my spiritual son, Dr. Richi (son of Gaby know that many in France as she works with Father James) was kind enough to welcome me home, so I now receives home care less expensive.  The treatment seems to act and therefore there is a marked improvement, I can walk with crutches, but I still need someone to help me get up and move around.
 
 GB: In your Christmas message 2013, you said that the Virgin Mary had promised you the healing you she said you will walk again?
 Fr. James: No, she did not tell me, but she consoled me, bringing the presence of Jesus in my heart.  She wore my prayers to her Son.
 As I just said to Jesus, "If you keep me alive, I would preach even if I have to lie on a bed or sitting in a chair.  I've heard Him to say to me, "You will preach with more power my gospel.  "
 He did not assure me that I was able to walk.  He fulfilled His promise, as I preached with greater power of my wheelchair in Poland in May.
 Throughout this period of suffering and especially during my coma, I felt the power of the Holy Spirit over me, which filled me with his strength, his power.  Then, when I was no longer in a coma, the Holy Spirit was still there, it gave me strength.  Now, thanks to my suffering, I feel strong, not physically of course, but spiritually and mentally.
 Now I can say that I'm not sick.  I am healthy.
 
 GB: While thousands of people you know, and you wait, they need your teachings and your prayers, how do you explain that God allowed this long illness and much suffering.
 Fr. James: God has His own plans.  The Lord said, "For My thoughts are not your thoughts and my ways are not your ways," says the Lord.  Heaven is high above the earth, so high are my ways above your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.  "(Isaiah 55: 8-9).  He can do his job even without me!  I always think I'm not absolutely necessary for his work.  Anyone can do the work that I do.  In my 41 years of priesthood, I have never had a vacation.  Maybe the Lord gave me a vacation like me my spiritual director said!  I am convinced that during this illness I've suffered for my sins, for those of my brothers in the priesthood, and for those of all the people who come to my retreats.  I believe that suffering is a ministry.
 The suffering of Jesus on the cross was His mission to save the world.
 If Jesus had not suffered on the cross we would not be saved.  It is the same for his disciples for which it is also a ministry.
  Certainly, for a year and a half I did not go to preach, but I exercised my ministry by these sufferings, and God acted.  St. Therese of Lisieux has never preached but through his suffering for the salvation of the world, she became the Patroness of the Missions!  She saved many souls through suffering.
 During my illness, I have received many letters and e-mails talking about cures, graces they received.
 If accepted and offered my sufferings have contributed, I thank God.
 
 GB: The suffering accepted and offered in union with that of Jesus saves souls.  So you have to repair for the salvation of the world?
 Fr. James: Yes, and also for my own sanctification.  Like St. Paul, I would say: "I rejoice in my sufferings I endure for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is lacking in Christ's afflictions   for his Body which is the Church.  "(Col 1: 24)
 
  GB: In spite of your suffering, some of which are constant, we see you through photos, videos, still beaming, smiling.  Can you tell us more about this Joy that you live?
 Fr. James: Uniting my sufferings with those of Jesus during my illness made ??me deeply happy!  When people came to see me while I was paralyzed and mute for months, I could smile at them.
  I've always been happy in my heart because I knew why I was suffering: it was a gift from God.
 Suffering is neither a curse nor a punishment, it is a gift of God.
 Throughout this period, I always thought that suffering was a gift from God.  I was in this state of mind when I was kidnapped, they broke my arm and right leg cut deeply.  These are trials that I wear again.  It is always very painful and it is also a gift of God.  "But inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, rejoice, so that when his glory is revealed, you may also be joy and gladness.  Happy if you are reproached for Christ's sake, for the Spirit of glory, the Spirit of God rests upon you.  "(1 Peter 4: 13-14)
 GB: On several occasions, we have seen blood in your hands, are they stigmata?
 P. James: I do not call them stigmata; this is simply a gift from God.  I also have five wounds: hands, feet and side, but I do not think they are stigmata.
 I think the stigma is for holy people.  I am a sinner and I am not worthy to have the great gift of the stigmata.  I kept this as a secret and I had never told anyone.  But now people know, because I was bleeding during the elevation in the Mass.  During my illness, Jesus told me: "I will remove these wounds I'll give you them back when I decide."
 So I have no sores or bleeding but I have marks on my body.
 
 GB: One of the main themes of your retreats,  are Christian values, family but also the dangers of the occult, the adverse effects of practices such as yoga, magnetism, spiritualism, qong qi, reiki ...
 Fr. James: I am announcing the Word of God in truth.  I make no compromise with the esoteric or New Age, or all practices from pagan religions.
 
 GB: Your message is intended only for Catholics?
  Fr. James: My message is for all those who want to live a holy life according to God's will.  In general, these are Catholics who come to my retreat, so my messages go to them directly.  I am a Catholic priest and it is my duty to tell the truth in the Bible and the teachings of the Catholic Church to the Catholics.
 Did you know that the Iranian government has banned yoga?  He says that "yoga is destroying the Muslim religion."  It is the same for Saudi Arabia where all yoga centers were closed.  Muslims understand that the power of yoga is destroying their religion but unfortunately many Catholics do not understand.  Yoga is inspired by Satan.
 St. Paul says that the pagans worship evil spirits, we worship the Holy Spirit: "But I say that the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be in communion with demons.  You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and at the same time the demons;  you cannot take part in the Lord's table and at the same time the demons.  Do we provoke the jealous zeal of the Lord?  Are we stronger than he?  "(1 Cor 10: 20-22)
  GB: A good portion of humanity seems to turn to these practices; you do not make friends preaching the opposite of what they do?
  Fr. James: I know that many are furious against me;  in France, many do not appreciate my warnings against yoga, against satanic cults precisely because many practice it.
 There is the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God or the evil spirit, the spirit of Satan.  There is the kingdom of Christ and there is the Kingdom of Satan.  Esoteric practices, the New Age, alternative treatments based on cosmic forces come from Satan.  "The whole world is under the power of the wicked" (1 Jn 5, 19b)   Christians must reject all these practices.  This is what we have done in baptism;  we renounced Satan and all his works.  We must never go back.  We should converse with the Holy Spirit, but never through other spirits.
 
  GB: Do you take risks in addressing these subjects?
  Fr. James: I do not preach to please people, but to please God.  I do not preach things that people want to hear, but what God wants me to tell them for the salvation of their souls for eternal life!
 I do not want to compromise.
 When I was sick, doctors, healers came to me and said: "Father James, I can give you up, I have powers."  I told them I did not want to walk again by the power of Satan, I just wanted to be healed by the power of God.  I like to suffer at the hands of Jesus rather than be healed by Satan!
 A therapist from Prague who wanted to put me up in a month began to use esoteric powers on me;  I felt his power and I told him "NO".
 Now I have a good therapist.
 
  GB: How can I tell if a therapist has links with the esoteric?
   Fr. James: Just ask him where he was educated, he has other skills outside of medicine ...   Dr. Richi and several of my family and myself, we do not compromise with these practices.
  To conclude, my current decision is to continue to preach even if I have to do in a wheelchair.  God willing I will rise, I will walk.  I will continue to evangelize even if I have to stay paralyzed.
 I also have retreats scheduled in Czechoslovakia in Portugal in France, Austria and Switzerland and again in Poland ...
 
 GB: Do you know why so many people are attracted to esoteric?
 Fr. James: I do not know why many people turn to the esoteric.
 Maybe it's because they do not find an answer to their problems in their situation.  There is  also ignorance among people about the danger.  There is a document from Rome about the dangers of the esoteric and New Age "Jesus Christ, the Water Bearer live."  It's good to read that Catholics;  you can find it on my website.  GB: By denouncing all evil, do not you fear retaliation?
 Fr. James: When I'm sick, exorcists have discerned four powerful forces of evil against me.  They prayed for me.
 During my coma, I had a wonderful spiritual experience of heaven and hell and purgatory.  I describe in my book "I saw eternity" which will be released very soon for my next retreat in France in Saint Maur des Fosses.
 I have seen Satan and hell.  Satan told me: "You James, you're working against my kingdom, I want to conquer the whole of Europe but thou destroy my work which is why I hate you.  Yes I really heard, as I have written in this book.  You must know that Satan is a liar, and he is the father of lies, and he is also a murderer. (C / f Jn 8, 44)
 
  GB: Dear Father, your serenity and joy impress me. What would you say to people who are suffering?
  Fr. James: "To all those who suffer I say that suffering is a gift from God, we must never think that it is a curse, instead it is a great blessing.  Today people do not like suffering because they have lost faith.  Only someone who has faith in Jesus crucified can understand the meaning of suffering.  We must not only rejoice when good things happen to us in our lives, but we also rejoice when bad things happen.  See teaching of St. Paul that had a lot of suffering for Christ.  "Rejoice in the Lord always;  again I say, Rejoice.  "(Philippians 4: 4).
 These words gave me strength in my sufferings.
 Jesus is the Way.  Jesus chose the way of the cross, we must imitate.  Christ prayed, we must pray.  Christ preached, we must preach.  He has done good works, we need to do too.  Jesus was holy, we are to be holy, to walk towards holiness.  Jesus suffered, we also suffer like Him.  Many people love Christ as a powerful and glorious Lord, but little love Christ crucified.  Many people are attracted by miraculous healings, blessings, but few are attracted by the suffering of Christ.  However, there is no crown without thorns.  The Christian should love the Cross.  Jesus said, "Take up your cross and follow Me."  When you take his cross with the cross of Christ, the light becomes ours.  In all our suffering Jesus, who is with us, said, "My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made ??perfect in weakness.  "(2 Cor 12: 9)
  Therefore, you should never suffer alone, but suffer with Christ.  If we must suffer, we must contemplate the wounds of Christ, see the power coming out of the wounds of Christ.
 Numerous saints suffered in union with the sufferings of Christ as Padre Pio, Marthe Robin ... And above all, of course, the Blessed Virgin Mary, our Mother, is the great example since she gave birth Jesus and accompanied him to the Cross.  During this time she suffered horribly without complaining, it has not collapsed, it remained standing at the foot of the Cross.
 Mary is the symbol of the strong woman who suffers but with love.
 That is why when you suffer, pray always the Virgin Mary for more courage.  During my illness, I constantly felt the presence and maternal comfort of our Holy Mother Mary.  Often I felt like a child sitting on his lap ...
 
 GB: Could you say a prayer for the readers of this interview?
  Fr. James: I wear all who read this to the Heart of Jesus and pray:
  "My Lord Jesus, I take all who read this interview to your Sacred Heart and I pray that many blessings flowing over them and their families.  I pray that the messages in this interview touch their hearts and make their conversion, healing, new life, they bring them all the blessings they need.  All I bless you and sanctify you.  Placing you all in the Heart of Jesus through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Mother, I bless you in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  "

Faisal Malick - From Sunni Muslim to Jesus Christ

Faisal Malick’s ministry is to communicate God’s love to the Muslim people. He was born in Pakistan and raised a devout Sunni Muslim. Although he was steeped in this religious training, he felt empty inside. This Canadian businessman considered Jesus to be no more than a Prophet, the Bible inaccurate, and the worship of Jesus unforgivable blasphemy. He took pleasure in challenging Christians in heated debates and was determined to win them to Islam.

A friend invited Faisal to go to church with him. Faisal declined and instead asked the friend to go to the mosque with him. This same friend invited him to a business conference with approximately 20,000 people. An offer had been given for front row seats at the afternoon business conference for all who attended the Sunday morning session. As an entrepreneurial businessman and eager student, Malick understood that the best instructors are those that had already achieved success in their area of instruction and purposed to take advantage of opportunities to learn from the “masters”. A guaranteed front row seat for the seminar was an enticing reward for simply attending the early meeting. It wasn’t until the morning session started that the realization of the purpose of the Sunday service became clear. As the speaker stepped to the podium, he welcomed the crowded room announcing, “Jesus is the Son of God.” Faisal thought this was blasphemous! However, he admired the technique that was used and made the decision that he would use the same strategy to promote Islam.

AN ENCOUNTER WITH GOD

Faisal attended two additional religious services connected with the business conventions. It was at the third service that he had an encounter with God. This was on July 3, 1994. He received the message of God’s love; he noticed that Christians had a peace about them. As the altar call was given at the conclusion of the meeting, Malick watched without emotion as others responded to the invitation for salvation.  

Suddenly he sensed God’s presence right in front of him. His first thought was - why would God manifest himself among these people! Immediately he had a multitude of questions racing through his mind, but in his heart, he asked Him only one:  “God, what are you doing here? I thought these Christians were the bad guys.”

In response, Malick heard an audible voice reply three times with the same answer, “No, these are My children.” As God spoke, His voice moved through Faisal and everything he had ever known up to that moment shattered.

He also asked the Lord, “Take away my stony heart and give me a new heart,” was Malick’s cry as he experienced new birth. “I didn’t completely understand what happened or how completely I had been changed until later.”

FROM MUSLIM TO MINISTER

Now, the same zeal which had motivated him to win others to Allah, was directed at winning people to Christ. Sharing his testimony became a daily event and within two or three years Faisal had led approximately 1,500 people to the Lord - Muslims to Jews and Hindus, most of them in his car which was affectionately called the “Save Mobile.”

He didn’t realize that what he was doing was unusual. Faisal recalls that one Muslim man came for two years without accepting Jesus. On the night he finally did decide to receive Christ he said a presence kept following him and didn’t leave until he accepted the Lord.

Another Muslim man came to him with his top 20 questions no Christian could answer. Faisal did not know what the man was going to ask or what he would answer him. Suddenly, an answer came after the man’s first question - and the answers kept coming. By the fifteenth or sixteenth question, God’s change came upon the man. He had to run to the bathroom because he was weeping. He came back and his twentieth question was, “How do I know what you’re saying is truth?”

Faisal answered, “Truth is a person.”

Then the man’s next question was “How do I know this Jesus?”

Faisal’s family somehow heard about his newfound faith and sold the house they allowed him to live in. Faisal had to live in his car during one of the worst winters in Canada. He would move from parking lot to parking lot in the evenings and go to McDonald’s in the mornings to shave. This did not stop him from sharing the Gospel with others.  He eventually was able to move into a basement and his life went back to normal.

However, now he had the challenge of his family. He went back to visit them in Pakistan six years after he saw them last. When his step-father, who is a great man of integrity and well respected in the family and community, saw Faisal, he sensed Faisal was a “holy person.” After his three-week visit, although his family did not receive Christ, his stepfather said, “You have exceeded my expectations and seem to be a pure and holy man of God.”

Also, God has given him a unique opportunity among the Muslim and Hindu people through both his background and what is referred to as the “mehrab.” Faisal says in the Islamic world a mehrab is a mark on the forehead, which Muslims believe is a sign from God of a holy man. Hindus favor this mark too as a sign of God’s miraculous blessing.  Many try to achieve this mark from their faithful devotion to the ritual of daily prayers. Faisal has a mark on his forehead. The most interesting thing is that it is not a birthmark. It just appeared when he was about 14-years-old. At the time, he didn’t understand its significance. But today Faisal sees it as a gift. Through this sign, God has opened doors of acceptance Faisal could never open himself.

In Canada, he would meet people at the local Perkins Restaurant. But this newly found passion took him on the road traveling and ministering life in schools, homes, churches and business communities. People would also invite him to speak at home groups, most averaging 150 people, and lives would be transformed. Many that attended these group meetings became pastors, knew pastors, etc., that would tell others about Faisal.

Once he was invited to speak at a church; the pastor told him there were two TV cameras at the back of the church and that it would be telecast in Canada and the U.S. – and he would minister in front of the church. Faisal read a passage from the Gospel of John. He felt the power of God, and one third of the crowd gave their lives to Christ. This was the first time Faisal was on TV. More ministry opportunities presented themselves.

In August 2003, Faisal’s ministry made a transition to TV. God told Faisal to ‘love these My people.’ God showed Faisal the power of TV and that Faisal would be used in a great way on TV to minister to Muslims. God also showed Faisal that the wall of Islam would fall. He was also making more TV appearances on the Inspirational Network, Sid Roth’s show and others. He launched his daily show, Plumbline, on February 2, 2009, which reaches at least 55 nations a month.

GOD’S MESSAGE TO MUSLIMS

God loves the Muslim people. About 40 percent of the gentile population is Muslim. God has not forgotten them, has a Father’s heart towards them, and hears their cry and longing for their Father. Just like in the story of Ishmael, the firstborn son of Abraham, who was exiled into the desert in favor of Abraham’s promised son Isaac (see Genesis 21:17). The name Ishmael means, “God hears.” He was one of four people in the Bible named before they were born, which indicated their destiny). Ishmael and his mother, Haggar, were exiled to the desert at the request of Sarah for the sake of Abraham’s promised child, Isaac. After a long journey in the desert, Ishmael was dying of thirst and cried out. God heard Ishmael’s cry and took care of him.

God promises to hear the Muslims’ hearts and be their loving Father. Understanding the roots of the Muslim people is an important key to understanding the current situation as well as ministering to Muslims. Dreams and visions are important to the Muslim. There will be a generation of Muslims that come to Jesus through dreams and visions – in the dreams and visions they see a Man clothed in white.  The Church needs to be ready to explain. Muslims are open to dreams and visions, open to God speaking to them in this way.

Converted from Islam receiving threats from extremists that they will kill them and their families.He has received threatening letters from different Islamic Organizations, told Ayub to LEAD. He also added that his meetings were conducted with different Christians organizations and with foreign delegations but not a single one helped us

Ayub Masih has come to LEAD office and told his story of conversion from Islam to Christianity. He also said how he had spent his four years in Christian faith. He is living in hidden. He has no job or any kind of work for earning his livelihood. He added ” I and my wife are satisfied that we have Jesus in our lives “.

Family Back Ground:

I have four sisters and one brother ,my father was died in 1996 and my mother is alive. My family belongs to tribe of Jutt (tuddy). I was married in 1998. I have two children one son and daughter. My son is 11 years old and my daughter is 4 years old. My family is learned family and have well knowledge of religion.


How I accepted Christianity:

I was working in Sahiwal as cable net work as a recovery in-charge. Some Muslims Colleagues told me that there was one Muslim who accepted Christian religion and denounced Islam. I was surprised and as well as shocked to know this story of conversion from Islam to Christianity. I told that informer that I wanted to meet him face to face.  My message was conveyed to that person. The person who accepted Christian religion his name was Zubair Shah and after accepting Jesus his name was changed as Emmanuel Shah. Emanuel Shah was reluctant to meet me and in this way four months passed away. After making satisfaction that I was not going to create any problem for him then he was ready to meet me in person and willing to talk with me. I had asked some questions to Shah sahab that why you had changed his religion and how you changed his religion which was the surety of Paradise.

I put many questions regarding his conversion from Islam and tried to reconvert him towards Islam. He never ever tried to influence me towards Christian religion that I would accept Jesus Christ. One day he gave me Holy Bible for reading but I returned him saying that I did not know any thing about Bible. I asked him that If you made me satisfied from Holy Quran then I would accept. One my this question he gave me many references from Holy Bible regarding the personality of Jesus Christ and references about earlier Holy Books. He gave me Bible and told me to read it you would find all answers of your questions. I read the Bible and read Quranic references about Jesus and Mary. I made comparison of different topics such as Day Of Judgement, Salvation and crucifixion of Jesus Christ , while comparing Bible and Quran I found that Jesus Christ had the all Authorities. This was my turning appoint towards Christianity.


How I was baptized:

I was under pressure while I changed my mind to accept Jesus because of Apostasy and fear of killing and other problems from Muslims. At the end I put all my worries on God thinking that God would guide me through dream what is right for me and what is wrong? I had a dream and saw that my father , who died 18 years ago, was sitting on the bench of Church and asked me that why you had not swept and cleaned the Church. I was satisfied that Jesus had given this Good News to my father and this was my encouragement to accept Jesus Christ. I told to Shah sahab about this and he gave me the reference of Pastor Munir Phool and he baptized me.


How My wife came to Jesus:

I often read Bible and my wife often asked many questions about Bible why I read this Book. One day I shared with her about my accepting of Christian Religion. My wife told that did you know that after doing this our relationship as husband and wife would be dissolved. I shared that all my matters and problems I had put on God , He would guide me what I had to do. We both spent that night in silence and on morning she told that what you had done you should have not to show and tell any body. This was between you and your God. In this way we spent one year. We both did not force each other regarding religion. After one year she showed her interest in Christianity and shared with me that she also wanted to accept Jesus Christ. In this way she was also baptized by Pastor Munir Phool. We both willing to get baptized of Children too but Pastor told that Children would be baptized when they would be matured.


How my family came to know about our new life in Jesus:

After our baptism, Mr. Emmanuel Shah shared with some Christians families about our conversion from Islam to Christianity.The news about this conversion spread within our area and locality during this my family also came to know about our conversion. My brother asked me about this conversion and I told him truth.I also started to preach him ,he became agree to accept Jesus Christ on our exchange of conversation, but he shared with our brother in law and after that he retracted from conversion.


Threats and hardships which I and my family suffered:

I had received many threats from family members and also boycotted from my family. They also kicked out from my house and also deprived of from my father’s property. In this way many Muslims came to know all this story of my conversion.I received many unknown phone calls and warned to accept again Islam otherwise i would be killed. I also received some threatening letters from different Islamic organizations. One night we were sitting in street because the light was broke down and weather was hot. Two men on motor bike came to our house and one of then said that this was the man who was sitting and the other one who was at the back of bike sitting fired at me, I was luckily saved but they thought that i had hit by fire and they ran away. After this incident we were very scared and fearful which is still going on.

I got into contact with Sohail John by Pastor Munir Phool. I told him all this incident and my problems which I and my family is facing until now. They have arranged many meetings with different foreigners and told them our problems which we were facing due to our Christian faith. He has not helped me and supported me until now.

Muslim Kunju Mohammed now a Catholic - Praised be Jesus

But as for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundred fold, in another sixty, and in another thirty (Gospel of St Mathew 13:23)

  

For the last 18 years Kunjumon has been distributing nearly 2000 copies of Vachanolsavam (Asia's Most Widely Distributed Catholic Mission Magazine) each month to the various parishes, colonies, hospitals and jails in Kerala, thus contributing his share to the evangelization work. 

He was a Muslim before. 

But 14 years ago he came to know about Jesus and became a Catholic on his own accord. He started his Vachanolsavam service distributing 250 copies each month. 

 

How he met Jesus Christ

Once when his life partner was suffering from multiple diseases like chest pain, ulcer and vomiting, he took her to the hospital. 

As they were standing in the Queue to see the doctor, his wife who was seriously sick was praying to Jesus.

Wife - Vision of Jesus

Then she had a vision of Jesus wearing a red cloak and she had a great desire to go to Potta (Divine Retreat Centre, Kerala, India). He brought her to Potta to listen to the Word. 

They prayed to Jesus earnestly. 

She vomitted every time she ate food for many years. But when she ate the food at Potta she did not vomit. 

How JESUS cured his wife

1. Jesus gave her complete cure from all her diseases.

2. She was illiterate, but soon, with the enlightenment from the Holy Spirit, she began to read the Bible. 

3. Soon the entire family received baptism.

Spread Risen Christ to Muslims and Non-Christians

He also became a Vachanolsavam missionary. He had witnessed how Jesus worked miracles in the lives of many giving them healings and blessings of all sorts. 

Through his Vachanolsavam ministry, many of the inmates of hospitals and jails became readers of Vachanolsavam, getting solace and healing from Jesus.

My Dear readers in risen LORD - Jesus Christ, 

The Word that became flesh is Jesus. And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth (Jn 1:14). 

Jesus - who is complete God and complete man. 

In him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily (Colosians 2:9). Jesus is the Word becoming the human form. The whole fullness of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit is seen in Jesus. 

He took the human form and was born of a virgin at the will of the Father (Is 7:14). His name is called the Word of God (Rev 19:13). Do you want to give Jesus to the world? Then, proclamation of the Word of God is most essential. When each one of us shares the Word with our testimony, we are proclaiming the Word of God.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God (Jn 1:1-2). Jesus Christ took the human form and his most crucial service was to give the Word. The Word proclaimed with authority and power continues to shower transformation, anointing of the Holy Spirit, internal and external healings on the listeners. 

But he said to them, My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it (Lk.8:21).

WHEN LISTENING TO THE WORD OF GOD

1. Cleansing of life takes place: Jesus said, You have already been cleansed by the word that I have spoken to you (Jn 15:3).

2. The Powers of Darkness are cast out: He cast out the spirits with a word, and cured all who were sick (Mt 8:16). 

3. Miraculous Healings take place: They cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress; he sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from destruction (Ps 107:19-20).

4. The great Word-power: God created the first man by the Word and He gave him participation in the creative process. Adam-Eve couple, the first creations of God, has multiplied into a mind-boggling seven billion, filling the earth. 

He created the earth, the sun which is colossally more gigantic than the earth, and the infinite number of stars even bigger than the sun, by merely saying ‘Let there be’ and he sustains all these things by his powerful word (Heb 1:3).

5. God accomplishes his works through the Word: 

By the word of the Lord his works are made (Sir 42:15).

Rev. Khanna: After release, I'm not afraid to go back to my Church

 In an interview with AsiaNews, the pastor of All Saints Anglican Church says he was "the victim of a conspiracy," but holds "no grudge". The rev. Khanna spent ten days in jail for having baptized seven Muslims.

Srinagar (AsiaNews) - "I was the victim of a serious conspiracy, but I'm not afraid to return to serve my church and community”, says Chander Mani Khanna, the pastor of All Saints Anglican Church of Kashmir  arrested for having baptized seven Muslims, shortly after being released on the night of December 1st in an interview with AsiaNews. The pastor was held in police custody for ten days at Kothi Bagh police station (Srinagar), under to art. 153A (people who promote disharmony, enmity or hatred based on religion, race, residence, language or caste) and 295A (people who offend the religious feelings of any class, with deliberate and malicious acts). He was arrested following a complaint made by the Grand Mufti of Kashmir, who had summoned him before an Islamic court after seeing a video of baptisms on YouTube. Below, an interview with Rev. Khanna by AsiaNews.

Rev. Khanna, what was the outcome of your trial?

I was the victim of a conspiracy, no Srinagar lawyer would take my case, the same legal group in Kashmir threatened all of its members to boycott me (see AsiaNews, 30/11/2011, " Kashmir: Anglican pastor who baptised seven Muslims to be released "). Twice, the judge had to postpone the hearing to determine my bail. Eventually, they released me only with a warning not to leave the state. At the time of liberation, outside the prison, there were protests, and on my return home, I had to change cars twice to avoid being followed.

Tell us about the events that led to your arrest

In Kashmir, we Christians are a very small community, just 200-250 people against the majority of Muslims, yet we serve through our schools and our apostolate. We never go around proselytizing, we never invite people to convert to Christianity. These seven young men came to our church for almost six months, they wanted to listen attentively to the Word of God, and with great respect sat among the community during services. After a few months, they spoke to me of their desire to receive communion and become Christians. So, they began to follow catechesis, after which they received baptism before the whole community. These seven people freely chose to be baptized.

Do you regret celebrating the baptism?

Absolutely not. The baptisms were celebrated in broad daylight, before the whole community. I had no ulterior motives, or other matters of money. I am an ordained minister of the Church of North India (Anglican, ed) and an Indian citizen living in a secular country. As a minister of the Church, we have our own evangelical mission. The scriptures tell us to go and proclaim the Word of God and baptise. This is the commandment given to the Church, in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Here in Kashmir we are a very small community, yet its like living in an Islamic state. A Koranic court summoned me and I went without any problems because I wanted to explain to them that I had done nothing illegal or unconstitutional.

Reverend, what would you like to say to the Muslims of Kashmir and those places where Christians are a minority?

I want to tell them that we are all sons of our father Abraham, who want to live together peacefully, and work to improve mutual understanding. There are many things that they do not understand about prayer. It is urgent that intellectuals and spiritual leaders sit down together and open a dialogue for the common good of all people. Giving communities more spiritual values, to help them understand and live together. The message of Christ is to spread love, not hate: that is why we want to express Christ's love in our lives through our ministry.

Are you willing to return to your church, despite the threats?

Certainly. It is imperative that reconciliation takes place between the two communities, so we can understand and help each other. Both Islam and Christianity are religions of peace. I do not harbor a grudge against anyone, my prayer is that God can reveal the truth to them. There is no other power except that of the Good News of the Gospel, which in a free gift such as I have received, and I can bring people closer to God's love

TRUE LIFE STORY AMIR CHAND

TILL he was 23, Amir Chand had no idea who Jesus Christ was. Although he was born in a devout Muslim family that prided itself in abiding by the tenets of Islam zealously, strangely he had not even come across Jesus Christ as a prophet as mentioned in the Qur’an. Christianity, he thought, was just another religion. Amir and his wife Seema, who had married young, faced the most turbulent time of their life when their eldest son passed away in a road accident in Jammu. However, they found consolation in the loving presence of Lord Jesus Christ whom they accepted as their Lord and Savior in 1998. Today, Amir Chand pastors a church and works among Muslims besides the Mahasa, Bhagat and Rajput people groups.

FROM 1995 onwards, our family was rocked by various misfortunes. The death of our son in a road accident where he was killed on the spot was more than we could handle. We felt as if the world had come to a grinding halt. We saw no sense or purpose to live on after his death. However, we had other children who had to be looked after. Before we could recover from the shock and grief over our son’s death, we were afflicted by to various illnesses one after the other. My wife and our children were all afflicted by sores, boils. They had terrible aches and pains all over the body. Although we were poor, we spent all that we had on our treatment. We visited various hospitals and consulted several doctors but no one was able to diagnose the cause for our illness. 

At one point, when we gave up hope of ever recovering from our illnesses, one of our neighbors who knew what we were going through came home. Mr. Rajan was a devout Christian. He chatted with us for some time and said ‘Why don’t you come to the church and pray?’ We did not have a problem with that as long as we were healed. My wife Seema had a boil on her head. When it burst open, the doctors said an adult’s index finger  could go inside her head through the gaping hole. The wound was that deep.

We  w a n t e d deliverance from our illnesses. If by going to church, we would get that why not try it out was our reasoning. My wife and I went t o t h e c h u r c h without telling our parents about it. The pastor of the church spoke to us and assured us that Jesus would heal us if only we prayed to him in faith. We believed his words and prayed. Within five days, our condition improved. Seema’s wound healed, the chronic pain in my stomach was gone. And my children's sores and boils disappeared without a trace. If this was not a miracle, what was? 

We had been living with these illnesses for three years. And now five days after casting our lot with Jesus, we were healed! We started reading the Bible and understood from it that Jesus Christ is the Living God mentioned in it. Although Jesus Christ is mentioned as a prophet in the Qur’an, I did not so much as know Him by His name earlier. Now, we knew the power of Jesus Christ. He was our healer! If He could heal us whom the doctors had written off, He must be God Himself. 

There are things beyond the comprehension of any man. There are things only a divine and supreme power can comprehend, control and create. We committed ourselves to living for this God the rest of our lives. However, our faith journey after that was not a bed of roses. My wife and daughter suffered a lot for their faith. Satanic forces played havoc in our lives, yet nothing could shake our  faith in Jesus. We had visibly seen the power of Jesus and realized He was the only Way, the Truth and the Life. 

In place of sickness and curse, there was healing and peace at home. We continued as secret believers for some time. We slipped out to the church on Sunday mornings without any of our Muslim relatives knowing about it. After five months, Seema and I took baptism at the church. When our parents and relatives came to know about this, all hell broke loose. Our parents were terribly upset with us. Initially, they tried to cajole us into forsaking our God. When they realized it was impossible they severed all ties with us. Soon, we felt the need to proclaim the Gospel to people like me who continue to live in spiritual darkness. 

We started our ministry in Jammu and rented out a house for Sunday meetings. By God’s grace, we are able to reach out to Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs living in that area. Perhaps, you are wondering if we have been blessed financially after coming to Christ. Let me put it this way. I ply an autorickshaw to make a living. We share our testimony and witness Jesus to others whenever we get an opportunity to do so. We are happy as a family. We may be earning less but there is no sickness or problems at home now. God meets all our needs miraculously. We have the joy that only God can give. Will you please uphold us in your prayers? Our fellowship is growing and we need to find places to worship in three areas.

My Personal Testimony - by Peter Akbar

My name is Akbar, son of Mohammed Khaja Mohinuddin and my mother’s name is Navanbee.

Before I could share my testimony, I would like to quote Romans 10:20 from the Epistle written by Apostle Paul, where the Lord says: “I was found by those who did not seek Me; I became manifest to those who did not ask for Me” (NASB). Apostle Paul quoted this Scripture from Chapter 65:1 in The Book of Isaiah.

The reason why I quoted this verse is to testify to the gracious, loving-kindness God showed according to this Scripture in my life and in the lives of my whole family. His Word has been proved to be true and it has been fulfilled in our lives. Though we did not seek Him, though we did not ask for Him, He found us and manifested Himself to us.

Here Is My Testimony

I am the sixth child to my parents following three oldest daughters and two sons. Our family was very religious and particular in following the traditions and beliefs of Islam.

My father was an engine driver working for South Central Railways and my mother is a house maker. My father was an active member in the Mosque and my mother, a teacher of Qur’an, was very passionate towards Islam and serious about following its traditions, rituals, beliefs and teachings. My parents had brought us up in the same fear and faith of Islam.

God Manifested

It all started with my eldest brother, his name is Musthafa, who was born after my three elder sisters. One day as he was walking on the road, suddenly he heard a voice calling him by his name: “Musthafa, Musthafa, look at Me. I am the Lord your God.” He looked all around to find the one who was calling him but he could not find anyone except himself in that place. It was a strange experience to him which had never before happened in his life. When the voice came again the second time, Musthafa recognized that it was coming from above.

Though he came to know that the voice was coming from above, he didn’t know whose voice it was. Before he could think about anything else, immediately he was surrounded by Power which was like an electric power that led him to a small Christian tent meeting where a preacher was preaching about Jesus Christ. The Power which was all around him said, “The One who spoke to you on the way is the same One this man is preaching.” There as that preacher was preaching about Jesus Christ, Musthafa understood that the One who spoke to him was Jesus Christ. There he accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour with a strong conviction as the Holy Spirit of the Lord dealt with him in his heart. As soon as my brother accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, he was changed. He was no more reading the Quran or going with us to the mosque to offer prayer. He was not doing what he used to do along with us every day. My parents found out about his faith in Jesus Christ.

When my mother, father, and all of my family members came to know about Musthafa’s new faith in Jesus Christ, they were very upset. We being Muslims did not believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. According to the Quran, He is just one of the prophets among many other prophets. Allah does not have sons or daughters and we did not believe in the crucifixion of Jesus Christ because we believed that before the crucifixion of Jesus Christ Allah took Him up into the Heavens. Christians thought that Jesus was crucified on the cross and even Jews thought that they have crucified Jesus Christ, whereas we believed they crucified someone else whose face was changed by Allah into the likeness of the face of Jesus Christ. We also believed the Bible has been changed by the Christians, Jesus Christ came only for the Jews, and He promised about Mohammed in the Bible, who then came as a messenger of Allah for the entire world and we have to follow only Mohammed now.

My parents were unhappy and they were very angry with Musthafa. For many days arguments and discussions between Qur’an and Bible were going on but none of the other party got convinced. However, my parents noticed that whenever my brother prayed in the Name of Jesus healings were taking place. The sick people suffering with cancer tumours, the blind, the lame, and demon possessed people were getting healed when he prayed for them in the Name of Jesus and these things were under observation of my mother and father.

One day my mother’s cousin’s sister, my aunt, came to visit us. She was suffering with the disease of blood haemorrhage (The Issue of Blood) since many days and became very weak because of continuous flow of blood. She expected my mother to take her to a good doctor. Meanwhile, my mother asked my brother to pray for her and my brother agreed to pray for her. We all accepted and we were watching as he laid his hands on her and began to pray. As Musthafa started praying for her, suddenly she fell down on the floor and a screaming voice came out of her saying, “I will not leave her, I will not leave her!” and we understood that she was possessed by an evil spirit. As I was observing, whenever my brother took the Name of Jesus that demon which was inside of my aunt was shivering out of terror and closing its ears. My brother questioned that spirit, “Who are you?” The demon spirit said, “I am a spirit sent by a person who was this women’s enemy and wanted to kill her with this disease.” When Musthafa said, “In the Name of Jesus Christ leave her!” that evil spirit was shivering and left her saying, “Because of you I am leaving her or else I would have killed her.” After some time she got up and asked us, “What happened to me, and why was I on the floor?”

I asked her, “Do you know what all you spoke?” She said she didn’t know anything about what had happened to her and what all she spoke. All she knew was she is healed! She could feel that healing and comfort and strength in her body; there was no pain, no flow of blood. She was full of joy and a great glow of happiness was on her face.

As this whole thing happened in front of my eyes I started reasoning, “Why evil spirit left in the Name of Jesus Christ? Why not in any other prophet’s name? Why the evil spirit obeyed the command which was given in the Name of Jesus Christ? What is there in the Name of Jesus Christ that even evil spirit had obeyed to that Name? Why not the name of Mohammed? What Power or Authority does the Name of Jesus contain?” My mind was filled with all these kinds of thoughts and reasoning’s.

My search for Truth

I decided to read the Bible to know about Jesus Christ who is claimed to be the Son of God by Christians. With an open heart in search of Truth I started reading the Bible. As I was reading, I came across Scripture in the Gospel according to Mark 16:16-18 where in the 17th verse Jesus Christ said, “These signs will accompany those who have believed; in My Name they will cast out demons...” (NASB). This verse of Scripture almost knocked me down and it opened my spiritual eyes. When I read this verse which was spoken by Jesus Christ approximately 2000 years ago, I was amazed to see that the Word of Jesus Christ is true and still alive and that Word is working. It had manifested in front of my eyes and it is containing Life even now; still there is Life in those words. According to this Scripture, when my brother commanded the evil spirit in the Name of Jesus Christ, the evil spirit left. I could not deny the fact that the words of Jesus Christ are true and had manifested in front of my eyes.

This incident brought faith in me in the Word of Jesus Christ. My Muslim spiritual leaders had taught me that even if Jesus was given the Gospel, it is only for that time and for those people. If that was true, how come the words of Jesus Christ are working now? With this incident I understood that the words of Jesus Christ are not just for that time and for those people but for all the people for all generations till the end. I understood that, “If this Word of Jesus Christ has proved itself to be true, then all the words of Jesus Christ in the Bible, whatever He said about Himself and who He is, must be true.” As I continued to read the Bible, each and every doubt and misconception about Jesus Christ and His Word (Bible) was answered. I have got all the answers for all the allegations made by Muslims about Jesus Christ and the Christian Doctrine. When I read the Word of God in the Bible, it corrected me and made me understand all of the wrong teachings against Christian Theology which I was taught by Muslim Theologians.

By the words of Jesus Christ, for the first time in my whole life I was introduced to God as a loving Father to whom I could go closer and speak to Him personally and fellowship with Him. For the first time the emptiness in my spirit was filled with God’s Love and His Presence. I understood the Love of God and the purpose and plan of God which manifested through Jesus Christ by sending Him into the world to die on the cross to take away the sins of the world. And also the Judgment of the world as we see in the words of Jesus Christ in the Gospel according to John 3:16-17 which says: “For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved” (KJV).

I understood that salvation is a free gift to all humankind through Jesus Christ from God, which man cannot achieve it by his good works. I realized God the Father had imputed Power in the Name of Jesus Christ for his Glory when I read the Epistle written by Apostle Paul to the Philippians Chapter 2:8-11: “And being found in fashion (appearance) as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a Name which is above every name: that at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things in earth, and things under the earth: and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the Glory of the Father” (KJV).

On December 24th of 1998 I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour and took baptism. Since then the call of God and the strong passionate urge in me to preach His Gospel and His Word of Truth to the dying world has been very strong like a burning fire in my heart. I resigned my job from a multinational company and I dedicated my life to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His Word of Truth all over the world till my last breath.

Ministry

My brother Musthafa and I started preaching the Gospel. As the days were going on, this news of our conversion spread all over the town and it was very embarrassing to my parents as, being an example to our whole Muslim community in our town and among all of our relatives, my father and mother felt very ashamed because they felt that it’s a shameful act on our family’s name that my brother and I were following Christianity and preaching the Gospel. But as the days passed, one after the other of my family members accepted the Gospel and came to Jesus Christ miraculously as the Lord opened their hearts like He opened the heart of Lydia (Acts 16:14).

My Mother And Father Accepted Jesus Christ

One day my mother questioned God, “If what my sons are preaching is the Truth, I want to know about it.” As she prayed she saw a vision in that she saw Jesus Christ. His whole body was wounded and blood was flowing from all over His body. When my mother saw this she could not bear it and she accepted Jesus Christ.

Though my mother accepted Jesus Christ, she was a secret believer because of my father. One day as my father was driving his train, he got down to check the engine. After checking it, he was getting back inside the engine and suddenly he felt something bite him on his leg. But he ignored it and by the time he came home his leg was swollen. When he consulted the doctor the doctor said, “It is elephantiasis and there is no cure or medication for this disease.” My father was upset, feeling sad and thinking, “Why has this disease come to me since in my whole genealogy no one has gotten such a kind of a disease?”

We took the opportunity to share about Jesus Christ and we told him that Jesus Christ is all capable to heal him. Immediately my father said, “If He heals me I will believe in Him and accept Him as my Lord and Saviour.” We prayed for him and we gave him a bottle of oil. We told him, “This oil represents the blood of Christ which He shed for you on the cross and by faith apply it.” My father took the oil bottle and whenever he got the time in his working hours he applied it. When he returned from his work after two days, all the peels fell from his leg and his leg became normal. He was amazed at this miracle and this miracle brought faith in him and he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and also he took baptism.

One after the other in my family accepted Jesus Christ including my sisters, their husbands, and also their children. Even my second brother, who was against us and used to criticize us, accepted Jesus Christ. Of course everyone had experienced miracles in their lives when we prayed for them so all of them accepted Jesus Christ.

Excommunicated

We have been excommunicated by Muslims from our religion and from our relatives, and all who were near and dear had forsaken us. Being reproached for the Name of Christ we esteemed ourselves to be blessed because He made us worthy to suffer shame for His Name. Many times being threatened to be killed we never looked back. Whatever we have suffered and are still suffering, it is nothing before Our Lord’s Love and Crucifixion for us.

In our same town we started the Church Ministry by the call of God and we went on preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the villages which are all around the town and district. I have worked with Campus Crusade for Christ. I took the Jesus Film projector and went on doing Evangelism all around the villages and even into deep forests where tribal people lived, showing The Jesus Film and preaching the Gospel. Many came to Jesus Christ and accepted Him as Lord and Saviour. The Church was increasing day by day; many people were joining the Church as the Ministry expanded all around.

Winning Muslims for Christ Ministry

This Ministry is working among Muslims, having committed to the Great Commission of the Lord Jesus Christ: “Go into all the World, and preach the Gospel to all creation” (Mark 16:15). Jesus Christ commanded us to preach the Gospel to all creation. All will not be all without Muslims.

If we see throughout the history of the Church and even now, the only people who were not being evangelized are Muslims. We find very few people from the Muslim background who have come to the Lord all over the world. If the Lord questions the Church, “Have you preached the gospel to all creation?” the Church may respond, “Except to Muslims, Oh Lord!”

Two Reasons Why Muslims Are Not Evangelized

When I was praying to God He spoke to my heart and gave me the two reasons why Muslims are not being evangelized:

(1) The Church is neglecting the Muslims and thinking that it is someone else’s work.

(2) Though some Churches want to evangelize Muslims, they do not know how to do so.

The Vision and Mission

The Vision and Mission of this Ministry is to impart the vision and burden for Muslims in the Churches and to train and equip the Churches for Muslim Evangelism. This Ministry conducts Training Programs, Conferences and Seminars to train and equip the Churches and the individuals for Muslim evangelism.

By this I can once again say that the Word of God according to Romans 10:20 has been fulfilled in my life and in the lives of my family members: “I was found by those who did not seek Me; I became manifest to those who did not ask for Me.”

Let all the Glory and Honour be unto God Almighty who is rich in His Mercy and Grace. Amen.

Brief Introduction

My ancestors came from Persia to work as religious heads and functionaries. Some of them settled in the city of Bhuj in Kutch and others in Jamnagar in Kathiawad. Later we moved to Bombay when the followers of the incarnation Kalanki settled there.



My Contempt of Christians

I benefited a great deal by coming to Bombay, where I got the opportunity to learn English. At home we spoke Persian, and in school we were taught Gujarathi. At this time I developed a great interest in reading and more particularly in religious subjects. However I felt no inclination to read the Christian Bible, which I was certain to be false. I scorned the Christian religion and felt that it would be a sin to even touch the Bible or to have anything to do with the Christians.

An Encounter in the Garden 

One day I was strolling in the Victoria Gardens (Ranicha Bagh and now Jijamata Udyan) in Bombay, when I noticed that a large crowd had gathered around an Englishman. My curiosity took me closer and I was infuriated when I found that he had been preaching in Persian. With uncontrolled anger, I abused him to his face, calling him a donkey, idiot, liar, thief and a cheat.

I had expected him to retaliate, in which case the Muslims around there would have beaten him up. But instead he stood there calmly, and quietly said to me, “Had you looked at my white beard and gray hair, you should have realized that I am like a grandfather to you. You could have spoken gentler words, suitable for your age and my stature. However, I tell you from the depths of my heart, that all that you said about me is true! I am indeed a donkey, a fool, a worthless, useless man in the sight of God! In spite of this, God has been merciful to me. The amazing story of God’s mercy is written in the Bible and I have come here to tell every one about it. I appeal to you to read the Bible. Concentrate on God and His message, instead of looking down upon my shortcomings or my mistakes”.

I was completely astounded by his words. He was clearly a highly educated man, fluent in many languages like Arabic, Urdu, Persian, Marathi, Gujarathi and English. He made me feel very insignificant, and I was in no position to argue with him. But then out of sheer defiance I said to him, “You fool, I know all your scriptures from beginning to end!”

To this he only replied politely, “I have been studying these scriptures for 33 years, and yet I am not certain that I have understood everything from beginning to end, may be, because, as you said, I am a donkey. I am happy to hear that a young man like you has understood it all. So I have a question for you: What was it that the Lord Jesus Christ said to the Samaritan woman?” I did not know the answer, so how could I say anything? I was confused and could only manage to say, “I have not read the Old Testament.” But this story is actually in the New Testament. I became very uncomfortable. My friends and other Muslims caused a big stir and the old man was made to keep quiet.

On our way home my friends congratulated and praised me and I felt very elated. I began to imagine that there could be no one as clever as I. I even stood up a learned Christian preacher. This exultant feeling stayed with me for a long time.

At Last: Experiencing the Love of God

But the Lord had not abandoned me. Within a few days, I actually had the experience that I had been longing for, something impossible to put into words.

Taste and see that the Lord is good.’ How can I describe it to anyone who has not experienced it himself? Instead of darkness I began to see light everywhere. By divine grace, I experienced the love of God that cannot be expressed in words. My heart was dancing with ecstasy. I began to feel that my soul was imprisoned within my mortal body. I saw so much love on the Lord’s face and all around me, that my heart went out in love towards everyone.
